Australian cosmetics recalled by consumer commission for mic

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has recalled three cosmetic products after they failed a product safety survey. The ACCC’s survey involved 115 cosmetic products sold in retail outlets and by online retailers being tested for microbiological hazards against internationally recognised limits.

These resulting product recalls involved a total of 12 batches of cosmetic products: nine batches of Nude by Nature liquid foundation (various skin tones) in 30ml bottles; two batches of Australian Lavender Essentials 15 ml Lavender Eye Cream; and one batch of Australian Lavender Essentials 100g Face Up Lavender Moisturiser were recalled. The ACCC found that all three products contained unacceptable levels of microbial contamination.

"The biggest concern with these particular cosmetic products is that they are intended for use around sensitive areas, such as the eyes and lips,” ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard said.

This is the second cosmetic product recall by the ACCC in 2013, after Dimmeys Stores gift sets were recalled for incomplete labelling in June.
