Look Good Feel Better (LGFB), the international charity that provides support to women and teenagers with cancer, has announced plans to roll-out a Mobile Service in spring 2014.
The plan coincides with LGFBs 20th anniversary and its developments and first year running costs are being supported by ICAP. The Mobile Service, which will be in the shape of a pink igloo, will be present in various different locations across the UK including Liverpool, London, Manchester and Oxford, and will act as an information and advice unit about the charity for members of the public.
The Mobile Service launch ties in with LGFBs five year plan to reach out to 50% of newly diagnosed women and teenagers in the UK by 2016; currently 165,000 women are diagnosed every year with cancer and this number is rising. By 2016, the charity also hopes to have 100 hospital cancer support centres hosting its core programme, and will continue to develop its masterclass format and online teaching via social media and its website, which it relaunched on 18 September.
The charity has also revealed the results of independent research that it conducted to prove the psycho-social benefits of its service on patients well-being. The research was carried out through over 2,000 patient questionnaires. The results showed that 98% of patients said it was positive spending time with women in the same situation, 97% felt supported being in a group environment, 85% said they would use all the make-up hints, tips and learning in the future, and 97% felt that confidence and strengthened self-esteem helped towards a positive outlook during treatment.
