Lonza, a pharmaceutical, health care and life science industries supplier, has joined the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an international organisation that works to ensure that the uses of palm oil are managed sustainably.

Having joined the group, Lonza has made a commitment to support RSPO’s initiatives, which are based on eight principles for growers: transparency in crop management, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, commitment to long-term economic viability, use of best practices, conservation of natural resources, consideration of employees and other individuals affected by growers and millers, sustainable development of new plantings and continuous improvement.

Lisa Bouldin, Global Business Director, Specialty Solutions, said: “The RSPO program falls right in line with Lonza’s commitment to ensure we are using the resources we have in a responsible manner and it’s another step forward in our own sustainability program.”

Bill Dietzold, Product Manager, Oleo Chemical Derivatives, added: “Many of Lonza’s key customers are also members of the RSPO. Joining RSPO is the right thing to do, to not only support our customer’s initiatives but also to support Lonza’s internal sustainability initiatives by ensuring we have a sustainable source of palm oil.”
