The British Museum was turned a rosy shade of pink last night as Estée Lauder lit up the building in support of its Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

2012 marks the charity’s 20th year, after Evelyn Lauder, daughter-in-law of cosmetics guru Estée Lauder, founded the charity, with its famous Pink Ribbon in 1992, along with her editor friend Alexandra Penney.

Last night’s event was attended by Evelyn’s son William Lauder, chief executive of Estée Lauder Companies, and also spokesperson and advocate for the campaign, Elizabeth Hurley. The model spoke movingly about Lauder’s fight to bring awareness of breast cancer to the public’s attention and added that it was a “bittersweet” night for all involved, following Evelyn’s death to ovarian cancer late last year. She said: “Evelyn would continue to be immensely grateful for all the support the campaign still receives from the industry and she would be thrilled that you are all here tonight to witness this spectacular sight on its 20th anniversary.”
