The US drugs and medicines regulatory agency, the FDA, has issued a warning to LOréal and its American subsidiary Lancôme alleging misleading publicity for certain anti-wrinkle products included in the companys Genefique Youth Activate Concentrate line.
The FDAs view is that the promotion suggests that these products can "modify the structure or function of the human body" which would put them in the category of medicines or drug products under US law. The LOréal products in the agencys spotlight are all sold online or in the cosmetics departments of the major stores.
The French group was given 15 days to come up with measures to correct the situation and the FDA has demanded that LOréal takes steps to eliminate the breaches of law linked to these products.
