La Roche-Posay to launch Cicaplast Baume B5 in UK

L’Oréal owned dermatological brand La Roche-Posay is launching its latest product Cicaplast Baume B5 in the UK as a multipurpose repairing product. Introduced in Ireland at the beginning of the year and originally promoted to mothers of children with nappy rash, the balm became popular for its hand softening properties and is now recommended for use on babies, children and adults to treat issues including eczema, sensitive skin, grazes, minor burns, cracked heels, insect bites, sunburn and chapped lips.

The formula comprises panthenol (5%) to soothe, shea butter and glycerin to nourish, madecassoside (derived from Centella asiatica) to accelerate epidermal repair, a copper, zinc and manganese complex to reduce bacterial proliferation and speed up the natural skin healing process and selenium rich La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water. It is claimed to be a good lanolin, paraben and fragrance free alternative to traditional antiseptic healing creams and may be used over a longer period of time than over the counter steroid creams.

In addition, Dr Vicky Jolliffe, clinical senior lecturer and honorary consultant at The Royal London Hospital, presented the results of a trial involving Cicaplast Baume B5 used on 2,400 people (including men and children) with issues ranging from dermatitis (eczema) to post-cryotherapy wounds. After using the balm twice a day for 16 days, a total of 98% found tolerance to be excellent to good, while the level of satisfaction in the excellent to good range was 96%.

Cicaplast Baume B5 is available in pharmacies across the UK this month and retails at £13.
