Benefit has teamed up with national domestic violence charity, Refuge, to organise a charity run from Scotland to London, from 15-29 June.
The 2012 Mascarathon will begin in Edinburgh and pass through Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Oxford before ending in Spitalfields, London. Presenter Caroline Flack is fronting the campaign and will be running the first two miles, while other celebrity runners including Donna Air and Zoe Salmon are also taking part.
Sandra Horley, chief executive of Refuge, said: “We are delighted to be working with Benefit, and all of their representatives and customers in the Mascarathon event. This event will reach out to women throughout the country who may personally be experiencing domestic violence – or who will know someone experiencing domestic violence. Together, Benefit and Refuge will empower women with essential life changing information to help them live a life free from violence and fear. Taking a stand and speaking out against domestic violence to raise awareness of the problem is an important part of Refuge’s work – and we are delighted that Benefit is getting behind the cause and leveraging support.”
A mascara baton will be passed from runner to runner every two miles along the route; each two mile stretch completed will represent the two women a week who lose their lives as a result of domestic violence in the UK.
