Germany’s most successful brands were honoured with the "best brands award 2012" during a festive gala in Munich: the winner in the category "Best Company Brand International" – this category was examined at an international level for the first time this year – was scored by the auto manufacturer BMW. Beiersdorf came in at 10th place. In the category “Best Product Brand”, Apple achieved first place, before Nivea in 2nd and Gillette in 8th place. HTC won in the category "Best Growth Brand".
The best brands award in this year’s special category "Best Retailer Brand Non-Food for Decision Makers" went to the online mail order company Amazon, followed by the drug store chain "dm" in 2nd place and Rossmann in 9th place.
What is special about this coveted annual award: not a jury selects the winner, but rather the consumer directly. The winning candidates are determined through a representative GfK study based on two main criteria. One is the actual economic success in the market and the other is the perceived popularity of the brand among consumers.
The German brand ranking "best brands" was established back in 2004 by the Serviceplan Group, the GfK Group, ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, WirtschaftsWoche, Markenverband and by iq media marketing.
