The 2-colour / 2-component technology used in normal injection moulded pieces is a well-known and frequently applied procedure nowadays. E-proPLAST GmbH in the southern Thuringian town of Schmalkalden has now presented the first PET bottles using the 2-colour technology.
"Optical effects can be achieved that may definitely be described as ‘eye catchers’. The combination of transparent bottles together with coloured structures will trigger a great deal of curiosity amongst potential end users. Specific inquiries have already come from the cosmetic industry for these applications", according to the company. Other areas of application may be found in the improvement of the surface feel.
Through the partial integration of special pigments, forgery-proof packaging can be realised. This knowledge is sure to be of particular interest in the pharmaceutical industry.
PET bottles with a layer referred to as an active polymer coating continue to be developed. By including anti-microbiological layers, microorganisms can be specifically combated, thus improving the shelf life of the product.
The company expects that the first commercial applications will be able to be implemented in the next 6 months.
