latest Gillette survey reveals new insights

Men like to be up-to-date in terms of technology; however a recent survey carried out by Gillette reveals: this is not the case in all areas. Although nearly all men are very interested in technology und find further developments important, a look into the bathroom reveals that “man” is everything else but up-to-date.

Four out of five men are technically interested. Cell phones, MP-3 players or computers in households usually are not more than three years old on average, according to the results of the representative Gillette survey. But what is it exactly that motivates men to keep themselves up-to-date in technical terms?

Owning cutting-edge technology was important for one third of the respondents (35 percent). Ninety percent of those interviewed indicated the change was the reason: state-of-the-art technology is better and more efficient. The reason for every second interviewee is the better functioning of new equipment. One’s own enthusiasm for technology should definitely be seen by others in 52 percent of the cases, and for half of the people interviewed, “man” should generally be in touch with the latest trends. The better look of a new appliance was the motivation for only 30 percent of those interviewed.

Whether cell phone, laptop or car: where technology is involved, the men’s world is up-to-date in almost every area, but in one domain, an innovation bottleneck prevails: in the bathroom. Almost every third man stated he was still using a wet razor model from the late 1990s. This means men change cars (every 6.3 years on average) more frequently than their wet razors.
